The Local Health Unit of Barcelos/Esposende announced that a new access model was implemented on Monday, in alignment with national guidelines for the reorganization of pediatric emergency services.

“It ensures that children and adolescents are directed appropriately, safely, and according to clinical priority,” the statement added.

The referral and guidance are provided through an initial assessment carried out by INEM/CODU (112), which determines the necessity of utilizing hospital services.

In 2024, the Pediatric Emergency Service at Barcelos Hospital recorded a total of 13,141 visits.
