The land designated for a new hotel in Quinta das Canas, located in União de Freguesias do Alto Seixalinho, Santo André e Verderena, was sold at public auction last Friday for approximately half a million euros, notably above the set base price, according to a press release from the Barreiro City Council.
The press release indicates that the new hotel will feature between 120 to 150 rooms and is expected to create more than 100 direct and indirect jobs.
“This investment is a clear sign of confidence in the city and its future. Barreiro is taking a decisive step to fill a decades-long gap and strengthen its presence on the map of cities capable of welcoming, hosting, and growing,” stated Frederico Rosa, the Mayor of Barreiro, as quoted in the press release.
“This is our vision to transform Barreiro’s future,” added the mayor.
When contacted by the Lusa agency, the Barreiro City Council declined to disclose the name of the buyer of the land on which the hotel will be built.
