A 27-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of threatening and assaulting his mother in Barreiro, Setúbal.
The 63-year-old woman is his legal guardian, as the son has a diagnosed cognitive disability with a 70% degree of incapacity, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) stated in a communication sent to newsrooms this Friday.
“Despite being medicated, the suspect becomes violent and aggressive whenever he does not take his medication,” added the authority.
The PJ reported that various other instances of domestic violence had been noted, some of which caused injuries requiring the woman to receive hospital treatment and obtain a certificate of “incapacity for work, for several days.”
The young man, who has previously served a prison sentence for similar reasons, is set to appear for his initial judicial hearing this Friday for the imposition of preventive measures.
