Bather removed from water in cardiorespiratory arrest in Ílhavo

A 60-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest after reportedly encountering difficulties in the water at a Costa Nova beach, in the municipality of Ílhavo, early Thursday afternoon.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported that the victim was assisted by members of the ‘SeaWatch’ project between Castelo de Trancoso beach and Costinha beach.

The alert was issued at around 12:30 PM through Ílhavo’s Municipal Civil Protection Service, promptly activating members of the ‘SeaWatch’ Project and the Aveiro Maritime Police Local Command, as well as the Ílhavo Volunteer Firefighters and the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) from INEM.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the victim had already been pulled from the water to the sand.

The man was immediately attended to, and INEM personnel performed resuscitation maneuvers, successfully reversing the situation.

The man was then transported using an Amarok vehicle to the VMER vehicle and subsequently taken to a hospital unit.
