On July 31, the APA (Portuguese Environment Agency) had placed the beach on the list of locations not recommended for swimming, a situation that returned to normal on August 5 but reverted two days later due to the risk of microbiological contamination.
A source from the Mirandela municipality explained to Lusa that, due to a momentary electrical failure at an upstream Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), residues were released into the water, which led to the first advisory against swimming.
After daily analyses had shown values within the parameters at the beginning of last week, they once again indicated the presence of Escherichia coli (E. coli).
On its official page, the APA provides, by region of the country, the beaches that are not recommended and those that are prohibited during the bathing seasons.
