The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has made promises it cannot keep and failed to address health sector issues, according to Mariana Mortágua during a debate on menopause held in Porto. She characterized the Health Minister’s performance as disastrous.
Mortágua highlighted ongoing problems at the National Institute of Emergency and Rehabilitation (INEM) and the closure of hospitals and emergency services.
She stressed the importance of ensuring that the National Health Service (SNS) can provide solutions to people and evolve into a future-proof health service.
As an example, she cited measures approved by the Assembly of the Republic supporting women going through menopause and dealing with endometriosis. Mortágua emphasized that the SNS must adapt and be accessible to everyone.
“The PSD does not have an answer for this, and we cannot expect a government led by the PSD, supported by the Socialist Party (PS), or vice versa, to solve health issues that neither party has tackled effectively on its own,” she asserted.
The Left Bloc coordinator advocated for different strategies for the SNS, such as exclusivity, structured career paths, hospital autonomy, and reorganization.
“We have solutions for the SNS, but we need deputies to muster the strength to implement these solutions, and that means electing deputies from the Left Bloc, which can only happen with votes,” she concluded.
