The position was expressed by the party in a statement sent to RTP, accessed by Lusa, following the coalition AD – PSD/CDS-PP’s designation of Nuno Melo, instead of PSD leader and current prime minister Luís Montenegro, for debates with BE, Livre, and PAN on television.
The debate between BE and AD is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:00 PM on RTP.
Joana Mortágua, a deputy and top candidate for the Setúbal electoral district, is a member of the BE’s national secretariat.
Previously, on April 2, BE informed the television networks that it would be represented by “one of the leading candidates” in these debates, reiterating the availability of national coordinator Mariana Mortágua to debate with Luís Montenegro.
Nuno Melo has already represented AD in two television debates, one against Livre, which was represented by spokesperson and parliamentary leader Isabel Mendes Lopes, and another against PAN, represented by its leader and sole deputy, Inês Sousa Real.
The television debates for the legislative elections begin on April 7 on TVI, with the Democratic Alliance (AD) and CDU, and conclude on April 28 with a broadcast on RTP, SIC, and TVI featuring a head-to-head between AD and PS.
In total, there will be 28 debates, divided between free-to-air and cable channels, according to the draw, in addition to two debates to be conducted by RTP.
