The Left Bloc has deemed the presence of an alternative essential and announced its support for Catarina Martins’ candidacy, committing to active participation in her election campaign, as stated in a resolution approved by the party’s National Board.
The document notes that in June, the National Board reiterated its stance in favor of a broad convergence candidacy for the presidential elections. The party leadership took all possible actions to achieve this objective, but an independent representative was not available to embody this path.
The Left Bloc believes that Catarina Martins’ candidacy, currently serving in the European Parliament, upholds the constitutional guarantee of an efficient welfare state and opposes all forms of militarism.
This candidacy is committed to creating a nation that serves its residents, rejecting the politics of hate and exploitation that drive toward a neofascist outcome. It is described as the voice of freedom by the Left Bloc.
The presidential elections are scheduled for January 18, 2026.
