In a request directed to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, the sole deputy of BE, Mariana Mortágua, stated that on Tuesday night an actor from the theater company A Barraca was assaulted by a far-right group in Lisbon while entering a performance.
“The Left Bloc has long denounced the dangerous actions of far-right groups that attack and seek to intimidate cultural professionals, healthcare professionals, and social and political activists who defend human rights. Unfortunately, these far-right activities are not receiving the treatment they should from public authorities,” the deputy criticized.
The blocist recalled that in April the party had already questioned the Government about the elimination of a chapter dedicated to extremist organizations in the final version of the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI) and noted that “to this day, it is yet to be explained why this chapter does not appear in the official version that reached parliament.”
“For these reasons, I propose that the next Leaders’ Conference discuss scheduling the debate of RASI 2024 with the presence of the Government,” reads the document directed to Aguiar-Branco.
In April, PSD, CDS, and Chega rejected a BE request for the permanent commission of the Assembly of the Republic to debate, with the presence of the Government, the elimination of this chapter.
This rejection was strongly criticized by PS, PCP, and Livre, who accused PSD, CDS-PP, and Chega of “talking about security,” but not wanting to debate it in parliament.
In a response at the time, the Internal Security System (SSI) acknowledged that there was a “working version” of the RASI that included information on extremist organizations, different from the “official version” presented at the Supreme Council of Internal Security meeting.
