The beaches of Matosinhos, in the Porto district, have been advised against bathing, confirmed Rui Lampreia, the commander of the Douro harbor, today.
“The warning was only issued on Monday, but they have been in this state since the weekend. We are waiting for the counter-analysis to try to restore the situation. Bathing is discouraged,” indicated the commander.
The affected areas, he specified, are the beaches between the International, near Ribeira da Riguinha, and the southern breakwater at Leixões Port.
On the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) website, the beaches Matosinhos Norte, Matosinhos Centro, and Matosinhos Sul are marked with a red warning due to microbiological contamination.
