The project is funded by the State, through the Ministry of Internal Administration, as part of an inter-administrative cooperation agreement signed in 2023 with that municipality in the district of Guarda.
“This noble and emblematic building of the town, which was in an advanced state of degradation, will undergo a deep intervention aimed at resolving structural and functional problems,” stated the municipality in a note sent to the Lusa news agency.
The work will include refurbishing the roof, facades, water supply and sanitation networks, electrical system, air conditioning, accessibility, energy efficiency, safety, functionality, and comfort.
The requalification of the GNR barracks in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is expected to last 365 days, during which the local police station will be housed in the recently remodeled Municipal Technical Services building, located near the Town Hall.
For Carlos Condesso, president of the local municipality, this intervention aims to “benefit citizens and provide better working conditions for the GNR forces, allowing them to perform their duties with greater dignity in serving the public and safeguarding the security of people and property in the municipality.”
