“The line is clear. All compositions have been removed, but repair work is underway on the track. The extent of the damage is considerable,” a source from IP stated.
The same source indicated that the accident caused damage to many catenary posts, which require repair or replacement.
Work will continue throughout today, with no estimate yet for the reopening of the Beira Baixa Line.
At least four people suffered minor injuries, and six others were assisted following the collision of an Intercidades train with a truck on the Beira Baixa Line at the Alpedrinha level crossing in the municipality of Fundão, district of Castelo Branco.
The accident occurred at 8:00 PM on Wednesday and led to the closure of the Beira Baixa Line.

The Intercidades, which departed from Guarda heading to Lisbon, had 118 passengers on board, according to CP — Comboios de Portugal in a statement.
According to CP, the train collided with a heavy vehicle at the Alpedrinha level crossing, and after the impact, the vehicle caught fire, which spread to one of the carriages.
A source from the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Sub-regional Command highlighted at 10:00 PM that the fire was under control.
At 10:00 PM, 177 personnel were on site, supported by 61 vehicles, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection’s website.
