
The announcement was made by the CEO of the BEL group, Marco Galinha, via social media, stating that the foundation “will award scholarships to young journalists who continue to study and work in Portugal.”
The initiative also aims to support “media literacy programs to foster more critical and aware readers,” as well as to encourage the development of “independent journalistic projects because democracy needs plurality and courage,” wrote the group leader.
The amount to be granted through the scholarships is yet to be disclosed.
BEL is a shareholder of the Global Media group, the company that owns titles such as Diário de Notícias, Açoriano Oriental, Dinheiro Vivo, among others.
