Bica wins Lisbon City Walks

The Bica district has won this year’s edition of Lisbon’s Popular Walks, the Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural (EGEAC), responsible for organizing the initiative, announced today.

Bairro Alto came second and Alfama third, EGEAC added in a press release.

The 17 other groups in the running this year are: Marvila (4th place), Alto do Pina (5th), Alcântara (6th), Madragoa (7th), Carnide (8th), Penha de França (9th), Mouraria (10th), São Vicente (11th), Bairro da Boavista (11th), Bairro da Boavista (7th), Mouraria (10th), São Vicente (11th), Bairro da Boavista (7th), Bairro da Boavista (8th) and Bairro da Boavista (8th). Bairro da Boavista (12th), Belém (13th), Castelo (14th), Olivais (15th), Santa Engrácia (16th), Graça (17th), São Domingos de Benfica (18th), Ajuda (19th) and Lumiar (20th).

EGEAC reported other awards: Alfama and Bica won the prize for best choreography, while Alfama and Lumiar were awarded the prize for best scenography.

Best costume design went to Alcântara, Alfama and Madragoa. The prize for best text went to Alfama and Bica.

Alfama also won the prize for best musicality and best original composition with “A Sina do Estivador”, as well as “A Vedeta é Carnide” by Carnide.

The prize for best avenue parade went to the Bairro Alto and Bica parades.

The children’s march from Lisbon schools opened the 89th edition of the parade on Avenida da Liberdade, followed by the three non-competitive marches: Santa Casa, “A Voz do Operário” and Mercados, EGEAC said in the same note.
