In a statement, the ANIL reported that the energy blackout resulted in “significant losses” for the sector, which “deserve recognition and consideration.”
The organization emphasizes that raw milk is “highly perishable,” hence the industry cannot afford any halts, highlighting a sector-wide appeal to “the Government and relevant authorities” for explicit inclusion of the dairy industry as a priority sector in national contingency plans, especially under exceptional circumstances like those witnessed on Monday.
The association noted that the dairy sector is heavily reliant on energy to ensure the supply of milk for processing and market distribution of various dairy products, with energy being essential for processing operations.
Despite the restoration of normal operations, an assessment of the impact caused by the power outage on Monday remains challenging, with the lack of electricity putting the industry to the test.
ANIL pointed out that the “power outage halted production lines and disrupted the manufacturing process,” with the primary focus being on resuming operations “to prevent compounding issues for farmers and ensuring uninterrupted delivery of products to consumers.”
