Blackout divides, Spinumviva heats up. What did Montenegro and Pedro Nuno debate?

The President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Luís Montenegro, and the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), Pedro Nuno Santos, were the key figures in the final television debate among the leaders of the eight parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic, held on Wednesday.

This debate, postponed due to a widespread power outage affecting Portugal and Spain on Monday, was broadcast simultaneously on RTP, SIC, and TVI from Nova SBE in Carcavelos.

As anticipated, the face-off was tense and characterized by accusations of both lack of seriousness and incompetence. Highlights included the controversy that led to the government’s collapse, specifically involving business dealings of Luís Montenegro’s family company, as well as each party’s proposals regarding housing, health, and economic policies, among other sectors.

The leaders also displayed differing opinions on managing the blackout, with Luís Montenegro claiming effectiveness and Pedro Nuno Santos pointing out a lack of coordination.

It is important to note that there will still be a debate with all eight leaders on Sunday and another involving parties without parliamentary representation on RTP.
