“Between 8 PM on Thursday and 7 AM today, around 70 incidents were recorded, mostly consisting of public road flooding and structural collapses, without significant damage. The peak of incidents occurred around 6 AM,” a source explained.
The “most critical situation occurred on the VCI [Via de Cintura Interna], near the Boavista exit, in the Arrábida-Freixo direction, where water accumulation caused road obstruction, affecting several vehicles.”
“A rescue operation was required for an elderly woman trapped in a vehicle. She was suffering from hypothermia but was assisted at the scene,” the source stated.
In Porto, apart from the VCI at the Boavista exit, tunnels below the AEP and Bessa roundabouts, as well as the new tunnel at Campo Alegre, were also closed to traffic.
The Porto city official added that Avenida Gustavo Eiffel, along the Douro Riverbank, was also closed, but has since reopened to traffic.
