Boat with six occupants sinks in Alqueva and causes two serious injuries

A boat with six occupants sank today in the reservoir of the Alqueva dam, in the municipality of Moura, causing two serious injuries, Civil Protection source told Lusa agency.

The source of the Sub-Regional Command Emergency and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo indicated that the alert for this occurrence, registered near the village of Estrela, It was given to 18:10.

One of the injured, a child, was taken to the hospital in Évora and the other, a man, was transported by helicopter to the Hospital de São José, in Lisbon, said the same source.

“The boat capsized and the six occupants fell into the water,” he added.

“When firefighters arrived at the scene there were no longer any of the six people in the water,” added the source from the Sub-Regional Command, adding that “there are no missing persons”.

They were mobilized to the site operational and means of Moura firefighters, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and GNR, a total of 27 operational, supported by 12 vehicles, including an ambulance Immediate Life Support (SIV) Moura, a GNR vessel, and INEM helicopter.
