In a statement shared on social media on Monday, British band Bob Vylan announced they have decided not to open for the American band Gogol Bordello during their European tour due to “logistical complications.” The tour includes performances in Lisbon on October 11 at LAV-Lisboa ao Vivo, and in Porto on October 12 at HardClub.
The tour kicks off on September 12 in the Netherlands and includes dates in Germany, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Portugal.
However, Bob Vylan stated in the post that they will be performing in Europe “in the coming months at festivals and on their own,” with concert announcements expected soon.
Gogol Bordello, also in a social media post shared on Monday, explained that Bob Vylan’s shows were “canceled by the promoter and venues in Germany” due to their performance at Glastonbury.
“The decision to remove them from the shows was not ours and was beyond our control,” the post read.
During their performance at the Glastonbury festival, held from June 25 to 29, a Bob Vylan member shouted “Death, death to the IDF,” referring to the Israel Defense Forces, urging the audience to join in.
The concert was streamed live by the BBC on its Glastonbury festival platform.
On June 30, British police announced the launch of an investigation into the comments made by Bob Vylan and also by Kneecap at Glastonbury.
On the same day, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State announced that the country has revoked the visas of Bob Vylan members “in light of their hate speech at Glastonbury.”
Meanwhile, the duo had several concerts canceled in countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom.
In their social media post, Gogol Bordello mentioned they had discussions with Bob Vylan following the cancellations in Germany to explore the possibility of participating in other tour dates.
“Unfortunately, it is logistically impossible for Bob Vylan to participate in the tour given the circumstances. We have worked diligently with our friends Bob Vylan to find a solution, but it ultimately did not work out,” the post stated.
Gogol Bordello, a band comprised of musicians from various nationalities, emphasized that they celebrate international understanding and value the freedom of expression from all perspectives.
