A woman spotted a body floating in Praia do Vigário the last afternoon and called 112 to the scene.
The Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Sub-Center was called in and deployed with a watercraft to rescue the victim.
According to what we have learned, the body will be transported to the Câmara de Lobos pier, where it awaits an ambulance from the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Fire Brigade and EMIR.
To DIÁRIO, sea captain Rui Manuel Rodrigues Teixeira confirms that they were alerted at 5.30 p.m. by the Regional Civil Protection Service about a body floating face down in the sea, and that a boat from the Life Saving Station was immediately sent to the scene.
The police collected the body, whose age could not be ascertained, and transported it to Cais Velho in Funchal.
He explains that they tried to disembark at the Câmara de Lobos pier, as previously reported by DIÁRIO, but due to the rough seas it was decided to disembark in Funchal, where an ambulance from the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR) were waiting.
The Maritime Police are taking charge of the situation.
