
The body of an 81-year-old man was found floating this morning near the fishing area of the Port of Praia da Vitória on Terceira Island, Azores, reportedly a victim of sudden illness, it was revealed on Monday.
In a statement, the National Maritime Authority reported that the alert was received at 7:30 AM local time from a fisherman nearby.
“Upon arrival at the scene, lifeboat station crew members, with the support of firefighters, retrieved the victim from the water, and the death was verified on-site by the Health Delegate,” explained the Maritime Authority, noting that the Maritime Police’s Psychology Office has been activated to provide support to the victim’s family.
