A report of a man’s body floating on the beach of Valadares, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto district, was received at 11:36 PM this Friday at the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa).
The report indicated “the presence of a body floating in the surf zone of the beach,” according to a statement issued today to the media.
According to the National Maritime Authority, elements of the Douro Maritime Police Command, as well as the Valadares Volunteer Firefighters, INEM’s Medical Emergency Vehicle (VMER), and the Judiciary Police were immediately activated.
Upon arrival at the location, the police found that the body had been removed from the water by firefighters, with the death being confirmed by the VMER doctor.
The body will be subsequently transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Porto, following contact with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary Police’s investigations.
The Douro Maritime Police Command took charge of the occurrence.
