Body of man found on Espinho walkways

The body of a 31-year-old man was discovered early Friday morning on the boardwalks of Espinho, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) announced.

In a statement, the authority clarified that the body was found between the Bairro dos Pescadores and Praia de Silvalde, with the “causes of this incident” still unknown.

The alert was raised at 6:00 am via the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa).

The death was declared by the doctor from the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle, and “after contact with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the body was transported to the Porto Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.”

In addition to the VMER, personnel from the Douro Local Command of the Maritime Police, Public Security Police (PSP), INEM’s Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER), and Aguda Volunteer Firefighters were deployed to the scene.

The note stated that the “Psychology Office of the Maritime Police has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family,” while the Douro Local Command of the Maritime Police is handling the incident.
