A body, presumed to be that of a 15-year-old youth missing since Friday, was discovered this morning on the northern bank of the Vouga River in Cacia, Aveiro municipality.
“During search operations, members of the Aveiro Lifeboat Station, using a jet ski, identified a body on the northern bank of the river, downstream of the bridge. They recovered it with the assistance of Aveiro’s New Firefighters and transported it to shore,” reported the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.
The AMN detailed that “procedural steps are underway with the Health Delegate” and that, “after the completion of the death verification and notification of the Public Ministry,” the body “will be transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.”
Furthermore, the authority mentioned that the Maritime Police’s Psychology Office has been activated.
The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Aveiro is handling the incident.
It should be noted that the AMN received “an alert at 11:00 p.m. on Friday from the GNR of Cacia about the possible disappearance of a 15-year-old youth, following the discovery of his bicycle near the Vouga River,” prompting “immediate search operations in the area.”
