
The body of a woman, approximately 40 years old, was found today near Cais da Escarpa in Vila Nova de Gaia, as stated by the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
The alert was raised at 11:44 AM regarding the presence of a body downstream from Cais da Escarpa, Vila Nova de Gaia, in the district of Porto, according to the authority in a statement.
Local units of the Douro Maritime Police, Coimbra Volunteer Firefighters, and the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) of Vila Nova de Gaia were dispatched to the scene.
Elements of the Judicial Police were also activated, as noted in the statement.
“Upon arrival, it was determined that the body was in a rocky area, and the declaration of death was performed by the VMER doctor,” the AMN further stated.
The body was transported by firefighters to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Porto, and the local Douro Maritime Police command took charge of the incident.
