Boeing wants to redirect aircraft deliveries after China’s refusal

“The only region experiencing issues with aircraft deliveries is China. Due to tariffs, many of our [Chinese] customers have indicated that they will not accept deliveries,” stated Boeing’s CEO, Kelly Ortberg.

This year, the company has approximately 50 planned deliveries for China.

China has rejected the delivery of new Boeing planes following the imposition of additional tariffs of 145% by U.S. President Donald Trump on Beijing.

Although Boeing considered this situation regrettable, it assured that it has “many customers who want short-term deliveries” and therefore aims to redirect its supply towards a “stable demand.”

Furthermore, the company noted that it will not continue manufacturing aircraft for clients who refuse to accept them.

The Trump administration expects to finalize trade agreements next month with most of the countries upon which it has imposed customs duties; however, the trade war triggered by its tariff policy primarily revolves around a dispute with China.

Last week, Trump mentioned that he is in discussions with Chinese representatives to reach an agreement with Beijing, while on the other hand, his counterpart Xi maintains tariffs of 125% on the U.S.

China has insisted that it does not want a trade war but is “not afraid to face one if necessary.”

Beijing urged Washington to cancel all imposed tariffs and to start a dialogue “based on mutual respect,” reiterating that protectionism is a dead end.

Beijing also warned that it would not accept international agreements that are made “at the expense of its interests,” following international media reports that Trump plans to pressure other countries during trade negotiations to limit their trade with China.
