Leitão Amaro addressed questions at a press conference following the Council of Ministers regarding warnings issued today in parliament by the president of the Constitutional Court (TC).
José João Abrantes indicated that he had written to the Prime Minister in August, emphasizing the critical need for increased budget allocations; however, Luís Montenegro only responded on Monday, without providing assurances.
“The decision about resource allocation is no longer with the Government. We have submitted our proposal: we believed priorities lay elsewhere, in healthcare services, schools, security forces, and the judicial system, and available funds were allocated accordingly. Now, this matter rests with the Parliament,” stated Leitão Amaro, noting that “many other entities” are also seeking additional funding.
Regarding the TC’s desire for a digital platform, Leitão Amaro remarked that “a digital platform for the courts already exists, tested and operational for several years,” referring to Citius.
“Significant investments have already been made for digitalization in the courts, with some requests not being considered. Given that the PRR provided substantial funding for digitalization in justice, why were these not considered? What was the reaction at that time? These questions linger, but the most crucial point is that we made choices,” asserted the Minister of the Presidency.
