Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini will be in Lisbon in May for a meeting organized by the party with far-right figures from several countries.
Jair Bolsonaro is expected to arrive in Lisbon on May 12 and leave on May 15, according to a statement from André Ventura’s party.
In the video sent to the newsroom, Ventura defends that this event “will put Lisbon in the center of the world right.
“The presence of Jair Bolsonaro, Matteo Salvini and many other leaders of the European right, marks Lisbon as one of the new centers of the strongest right in Europe and one of the world references of the fight against socialism,” he considered.
The Chega leader called for participation in the event and praised the party’s “recognition by international peers”.
Last March 23, André Ventura confirmed that he was organizing a “major event” to bring together in Lisbon leaders of the European far right, as well as the former presidents of Brazil and the United States, Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump.
At a press conference in Lisbon, André Ventura said that the party had also invited “several leaders of the European right”, including Santiago Abascal of the Spanish Vox and the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom Chega “would like to have in Portugal”.
The aim of this event, he said at the time, was to be similar to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), considered the most important meeting of the ultra-conservative movement in the United States.
“The idea was to be very similar to the North American CPAC,” with interventions, conferences, moments of interaction and “rallies at some moments with some more popular leaders or with greater mobilization,” he said.
Matteo Salvini was already present in 2021 at a Chega congress in Coimbra.
