“Bonfire” by homeless triggered Sheraton alarm. The images of the apparatus

A campfire ignited by homeless individuals near the ventilation entrance of the Sheraton Hotel on Rua Latino Coelho in Lisbon triggered the hotel’s alarm system and its emergency plan on Wednesday. Images released by the Lisbon Fire Brigade showed the extensive response at the scene, where 38 personnel were deployed with 13 vehicles.

The emergency services arrived at the building within five minutes following an alert received at 3:12 PM, according to a Facebook post.

The video, accessible through the gallery above, depicts various vehicles and personnel outside the hotel, with some seen exiting a ventilation area.

It was confirmed that the incident did not result in “personal or material damage,” nor was there a need to evacuate the building, according to a statement from the hotel unit.

“The alarm was promptly activated by the hotel’s security system, which detected smoke in the building’s basement, containing five underground floors. The swift response of the hotel’s initial response team and the Lisbon Fire Brigade, who arrived on the scene […], ensured that the flames were extinguished quickly,” the statement read.

The entity emphasized that “the incident was resolved without any harm to hotel guests and staff,” thanks to “the rapid and effective response of the hotel’s initial response team and emergency teams, namely from the Fire Brigade, Lisbon Volunteer Firefighters, PSP, and Municipal Civil Protection.”
