Book assumes ambition to elect in Santarém by stealing deputies from the far-right

During his first campaign visit to Santarém, Rui Tavares emphasized the district’s pivotal role in national politics, highlighting its dynamic voting patterns.

“Back in the 1980s, this was the stronghold of the Democratic Renovator Party (PRD), making it a district that often accompanies change and political novelty. However, not all novelties are beneficial; for instance, those from the extreme right represent a negative shift,” he remarked.

While touring Constância’s river beach, Tavares criticized the extreme right for electing representatives who “diminish the work quality” in the Assembly “when they are not outright political delinquents, or simply delinquents, as evidenced by incidents during the current legislature.”

He asserted that those seeking political innovation, competence, stability, and ideas in Santarém should vote for Livre.

“We know we’re growing in the Santarém district. Our strong candidacy, led by Natércia Rodrigues Lopes and Rui Simões, brings technical expertise, including scientific knowledge, local governance, and municipal management,” Tavares emphasized.

“We can offer Santarém voters a unique representation in the upcoming legislature in the Assembly of the Republic,” he added.

Tavares, who plans to continue his campaign in Aveiro later, where he also aims to secure seats, is optimistic about a strong voter turnout and believes in the competitive potential in Santarém.

In the legislative elections scheduled for March 10, 2024, Santarém will elect nine deputies, with previous distribution being three seats each for PS, PSD, and Chega.
