Braga sappers and PSP rescue baby cat trapped inside piping. See

The Sapadores Firefighters of Braga, in collaboration with the Public Security Police (PSP), successfully rescued a cat trapped inside a pipe last Friday. The operation required “destroying part of the piping to create a means of rescue for the animal.”

“This time, the ‘heroes’ were three members of the Sapadores Firefighters of Braga, namely First-Class Sub-Chief João Paulo Sá, Second-Class Sub-Chief Vítor Ferreira, and firefighter Filipe Lage, who promptly rescued the cat,” stated a post on the ‘Soldados da Paz’ Facebook page.

The “task was not easy,” being likened to a “surgical intervention” because “it was necessary to save the pet without causing any potential collateral damage to the cat” which was “frightened by its captivity but eager to be freed.”

The Facebook page further noted that the cat was a kitten, approximately a month and a half old, and “had been trapped for two days in an ‘L’-shaped pipe.” The kitten’s mother was nearby.

“These actions by the Sapadores Firefighters of Braga are carried out fairly often, mainly involving cats and dogs, but also in rarer instances involving larger animals that fall into wells or holes and cannot escape on their own,” it read.

Braga’s Municipal Animal Ombudswoman, Filomena Costa, was present throughout the operation, which took place on Rua de São Vicente in Braga, assisted by a PSP patrol, specifically Principal Agent Filipe Soares.
