“Four days of great animation and enthusiasm, with thousands of people coming from all over,” stated Mayor Paulo Xavier.
The “heart” and emblem of Bragança municipality will feature “a lot of animation,” transporting attendees back to the medieval times with recreated scenes from the 14th century.
On Thursday, the event kicks off with a parade starting from Praceta dos Correios heading towards the castle, involving “hundreds of people.”
From Thursday to Sunday, visitors can enjoy medieval tournaments, a key attraction of the Historical Festival, alongside stalls offering small crafts and the famous thieves’ streets, narrow alleys with characters intended to surprise passersby.
The event engages locals of all ages, who during these days assume a medieval persona and set aside their own identity. More than “100 volunteer actors from the area” passionately inhabit this cultural moment.
The Historical Festival has become “a national milestone,” attracting “many people” and growing “year after year,” according to the Mayor of Bragança.
Paulo Xavier also mentioned that in the coming days, local accommodations and restaurants are already fully booked, unable to meet all requests, resulting in visitors being directed to neighboring municipalities.
“For tourists, it is enchanting, as they come when there is animation, music, and space to socialize, leading to extraordinary economic activity, with traditional commerce, hospitality, and dining overwhelmed by the demand,” the mayor reiterated.
The Historical Festival of Bragança has been held since 2015.
