Brazil expects a record harvest of 332.6 million tons of grains

The data indicates an increase of 39.9 million tons in the country’s grain harvest when comparing 2025 to 2024.

The area to be harvested in Brazil reached 81.2 million hectares, a growth of 2.7% compared to the area harvested in 2024, with an increase of 2.1 million hectares, and an increase of 0.2% (146.3 thousand hectares) compared to April.

“The May estimate for the 2025 harvest is a record in the IBGE’s historical series, as well as the productions of cotton (in seed) and soy. The expansion of planting areas and favorable weather in most producing states are responsible for the success of the Brazilian grain harvest this year,” emphasized Carlos Barras, a representative from IBGE.

“Only Rio Grande do Sul experienced a production decline, due to a lack of rain during the summer harvest,” he added.

According to the Brazilian Government statistics body, soybeans, corn, and rice are the three main products available in this year’s harvest. Combined, the production of these three grains accounts for 92.7% of Brazil’s production estimate and represents 87.9% of the area to be harvested.

Individually, the soybean harvest in Brazil is expected to reach 165.2 million tons. For corn, the production estimate was 130.8 million tons, and rice (in husk) production was estimated at 12.3 million tons in 2025.

IBGE also reported increases of 4.5% in estimates for the herbaceous cotton harvest (in seed), 15.9% for rice in husk, 4.6% for beans, 13.9% for soybeans, 14.1% for corn, 9% for sorghum, and 6.6% for wheat.

Conversely, there were declines in production estimates for barley (-23.1% or 125,562 tons) and wheat (-0.4% or 34,842 fewer tons).
