A 40-year-old man broke into a woman’s home, assaulted her, and attempted to rape her on March 8 in Porto Salvo, in the municipality of Oeiras. The victim was saved when the suspect “heard the doorbell ring.”
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) stated in a note released on Wednesday that the man is “strongly suspected of the crime of aggravated home invasion or disturbance of private life, in its consummated form, and a crime of attempted rape.”
The crime took place on the morning of March 8, when the suspect rang the victim’s doorbell. Upon opening the door, “he pushed her without giving her time to react” and “threw himself on” the woman.
Subsequently, with the victim “falling onto the sofa,” he “attempted to pull down her pajama pants with the intent to rape her.”
The victim tried to resist the rape and screamed for help, while the man “hit her with hard slaps to silence her.” “Only when the accused heard the doorbell ring did he get up and leave the victim’s residence, closing the door,” the PGR stated.
The woman “suffered several bruises and abrasions on her face and nose” and required hospital treatment.
After appearing before a judicial investigation, the suspect was remanded in custody.
