Brussels wants to evaluate the elimination of geographic blocking (and not only that)

This proposal is part of the 2030 Consumer Agenda, a strategic plan for EU consumer policy for the next five years, adopted today.

The agenda states that by 2026, the regulation on consumer protection rules will be revised, and all companies offering products and services in the EU will have to meet the same standards, announced the European Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, Michael McGrath, at a press conference.

The plan includes four strategic areas, such as eliminating cross-border consumer obstacles, enhancing digital fairness and online consumer protection, particularly for minors, promoting sustainable consumption, and effectively applying rules and appeal mechanisms to strengthen consumer protection against the increasing circulation of unsafe or non-compliant products and unfair online commercial practices by non-compliant operators.

Consumers also face unfair online commercial practices by non-compliant traders.

There are 450 million consumers in the EU’s single market, contributing more than 51% of the EU’s Gross Domestic Product.

According to the European Commission, the 2030 Consumer Agenda covers a wide range of actions aimed at strengthening consumer protection and promoting competitiveness, social justice, and sustainable growth.

European consumers benefit from some of the highest protection levels in the world.
