Bundle up! The weekend will be cold and rainy (and maybe snowy).

The weather will remain cold and humid this weekend, November 22 and 23, with a chance of snowfall in Serra da Estrela.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts that Saturday will generally have clear or slightly cloudy skies, except in the northern region from Serra de Montejunto to Serra da Estrela, where “very cloudy” skies are expected by afternoon.

Rain is anticipated only in Minho during the afternoon, potentially spreading to the rest of the North. In the Greater Porto area, there is a “possibility of light rain periods starting late afternoon,” according to the institute.

Should the rain extend to the northern zone, IPMA indicates a good chance of “snowfall in the mountains of the far north.”

The wind will generally be light, “occasionally moderate (20 to 30 kilometers per hour) in highlands.” IPMA also predicts frost formation in the interior, noting a “slight decrease in minimum temperatures” across the country.

And on Sunday?

By Sunday, temperatures will rise, but only slightly. An increase is expected in the North and Central regions, with maximum temperatures climbing nationwide.

The increase, however, is accompanied by a broader forecast of light rain for the North and Central regions of the country, “potentially reaching Alto Alentejo by late afternoon.” During this time, snowfall is also possible in Serra da Estrela.

The wind is expected to pick up, becoming gradually moderate (up to 30 kilometers per hour). In highlands, it could strengthen, reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour.
