Businesspeople gather at the largest business event in Mozambique

A conference attended by Mozambique’s President, Daniel Chapo, will continue until Friday at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Center in Maputo, the nation’s capital. This event is once again jointly organized by Mozambique’s Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) and the government.

“The 20th edition of the Annual Private Sector Conference symbolizes two decades of institutionalized public-private dialogue in Mozambique. This milestone represents a unique opportunity to capitalize on progress made, consolidate commitments, and establish new reformist goals, within a framework of shared responsibility between the government and the business sector,” reads a statement on the CASP website.

The event, held under the theme “Reforming to Compete: Paths to Economic Revival,” expects to host over 2,000 participants, 40 speakers, and 80 exhibitors. The latter will participate in the Mozambique Home Expo, an exhibition alongside the CASP aimed at promoting access to affordable housing.

The CTA has announced that the conference agenda includes discussions on projects valued at $1.5 billion (€1.288 billion), with confirmed delegations from at least six countries.

This edition will feature bilateral sessions between Mozambique and entities such as the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and Brazil, along with more than 10 high-level meetings already confirmed, according to the CTA.

The event will also include a “Market Place,” designed to facilitate meetings for identifying business solutions and opportunities in both domestic and foreign markets for stakeholders in the production, importation, distribution, and supply chain of raw materials for industry.

The program will feature “business rooms,” functioning as forums for promoting investment through intermediary meetings, where entrepreneurs and project proponents will interact with financial institutions.

The CASP aims to highlight the importance of government and private sector commitment and responsibility for economic revival through structural reforms that enhance the competitiveness of the private sector, promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economic recovery.

On July 8, Mozambique’s President, Daniel Chapo, reaffirmed his commitment to public-private dialogue aimed at “accelerating reforms” and improving the business environment in the country, as indicated in a presidential statement.

“President Daniel Chapo expressed the government’s openness to collaborate with the private sector on the reform agenda to attract investments, increase national production, and boost exports,” reads the document issued at that time to the media, highlighting a meeting between the Head of State and the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique.

During the mentioned meeting, the Mozambican president also urged the CTA, the largest representative of the private sector in Mozambique, to present “concrete reform proposals” considering the “challenges they face daily.”
