October is a busy month for Mercadona, with the Spanish group planning to open three supermarkets this month. The most recent date was announced by the Spanish brand this week: a new supermarket will open in Palmela, Setúbal, on October 30, at 09:00, on Rua de São Julião, n.º 3.
“This new opening represents an important step in strengthening Mercadona’s presence in the Setúbal district, getting even closer to its ‘Chiefs’ (customers),” stated a company release.
Mercadona reports that “this new supermarket will generate around 90 new jobs, stable and quality positions, with permanent contracts from day one, thus contributing to local employment creation.”
“The Palmela supermarket will be similar to Mercadona’s existing stores in the Peninsula, featuring the brand’s efficient store model with a sales area of about 1,900 m2, wide aisles for comfortable shopping, divided among the Deli, Fish, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat sections,” the statement reads.
According to the Spanish brand, the “opening of this new supermarket marks the arrival in a new municipality and reflects the continuity of the company’s local and national expansion plan.”
Before Palmela, São Gens and Frielas
Also this month, Mercadona is set to open two more supermarkets: in São Gens and Frielas.
Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Frielas, Loures, on October 16, at 09:00, on Rua do Bom Jardim, nº 2, following an earlier opening in São Gens, Matosinhos, on October 9, also at 09:00.
Mercadona opens in Lisbon in November
Mercadona, which already has over 60 stores in Portugal, announced that it will open its first supermarkets in the city of Lisbon in November, located in Alta de Lisboa and Quinta do Lambert (Lumiar).
The two new supermarkets in the capital will create 180 jobs, according to a statement received by Notícias ao Minuto. It should be noted that the Spanish brand is currently recruiting for these two stores.
“The open positions for these stores are for supermarket operators and maintenance assistants. All job offers come with a training period, permanent contracts from day one, and are remunerated from the start. Additionally, during this period, all expenses are covered by the company, including food, transport, accommodation, and bi-weekly travel home for all employees,” the company explains.
