But 56% of passengers flying between islands in Cape Verde in the 1st quarter

A year ago, the concession handed to the operator Bestfly was collapsing, requiring the intervention of the state-owned company, Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV), to sustain domestic flight connections.

The number of airplanes was increased, along with the introduction of new routes and discounts.

In the first quarter of 2024, there was a passenger movement of 135,000 between islands, which surged to over 211,000 in the same period this year.

The data further indicate a 7% year-on-year increase in international passenger movement, reaching approximately 687,000 in Cabo Verde’s airports and airfields during that timeframe.

This development corresponds with the opening of new air routes from Europe to the archipelago, accompanied by a rise in tourism demand.

In 2023, the government awarded the public airport service concession to Cabo Verde Airports, a company under the Vinci group, with the objective of modernizing and expanding the four international airports (Boavista, Praia, Sal, and São Vicente) and three airfields (Fogo, Maio, and São Nicolau), as part of a 40-year investment plan.
