More than 10 million voters are heading to the polls today to elect 230 deputies to the Assembly of the Republic for the next legislative session, from which the new Government will be formed.
Polling stations are open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM in mainland Portugal and Madeira. In the Azores, polling stations open and close an hour later than in Lisbon, due to the time difference.
The Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI) has stated that 10.8 million voters are eligible to participate in today’s snap legislative elections.
A total of 21 political parties are contesting in these elections, three more than in the elections held in March last year.
