“Calculations, algorithms, cold logic.” Pope criticized “an economy that kills”

The recent statements vividly reflect Pope Francis’s worldview. On Friday, during the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum in Rome, the Pope criticized “the economy that kills” in the meditations he had prepared for the occasion.

In the 14 Stations that depict the Passion of Christ, the Pope made reflections such as advocating for the embrace of “God’s economy, which does not kill, does not discard, does not crush. It is humble, faithful to the earth”.

“Yet,” he lamented, “we have built a world that operates like this: a world governed by calculations and algorithms, a reality marked by cold logic and relentless interests”, Pope Francis stated during the Stations of the Cross.

In each station, the Pope composed a prayer urging a “challenge to the economy that kills” or “for those at the borders who feel their journey has come to an end”.

Pope Francis passed away on Monday morning at the age of 88, following a stroke that led to a coma and irreversible cardiac arrest, at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City.

The Vatican has entered the ‘Sede Vacante’ period, overseen by Cardinal Camerlengo Kevin Farrel, until a new Pope is elected in a conclave scheduled to take place within a month.
