Campaign launched against the dangers of excessive screen exposure

A campaign titled ‘Less Screens, More Life’ announced its initiative to distribute informational leaflets aimed at supporting Portuguese families and schools. This action responds to requests from teachers, psychologists, healthcare professionals, and parents across the country.

“In addition to best practices for families, the leaflets outline the risks children and young people face, the impact of digital device usage on their physical and mental health, and recommendations from the Portuguese Society of Neuropediatrics, tailored to each age group,” states the movement in its announcement.

This civic movement, established in January 2024, consists of four mothers and teachers.

“We support progress and the use of technological resources. However, we oppose intellectual regression, health detriments, and a certain dehumanization caused by excessive technology use by children, especially within the school environment,” the movement declares in the statement.

The group also has two online public petitions: ‘Experience school recess, without smartphone screens!’, which has gathered over 24,000 supporters, and ‘Against excessive digitalization in education and the mass adoption of digital school textbooks,’ with more than 6,000 signatories.
