
Three Canadian tourists who requested assistance after becoming disoriented in the Gerês mountains, Montalegre, were rescued by 19:15 and are in good condition, revealed the commander of the Salto firefighters.
Hernâni Carvalho stated that the three tourists, initially reported as four, were located around 18:38 with the help of a drone, and the rescue team reached them by 19:15.
The tourists, comprising two women and one man, all aged 27, were found to be in good health despite the cold conditions at the time of discovery, the commander reported.
The alert was raised at approximately 17:30 in the Cabril area, Montalegre municipality, Vila Real district.
According to the Salto fire commander, the group was hiking a trail in the Peneda-Gerês National Park when they became disoriented as night fell, prompting their call for help.
For this operation, firefighters deployed a team operating a drone, a rescue team of five members on foot through the mountains, an all-terrain ambulance with two crew members, and a command element.
The GNR dispatched officers from the Gerês Mountain Group of the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit.
