The Portuguese people are a generous population, stated Vitor Veloso, president of the LPCC, while noting the increasing difficulty of street collections due to the rise in solicitations from entities motivated by personal profit and lacking transparent accounting.
The volunteers participating in the collection drive starting this Thursday are identified by LPCC vests and carry a blue box for donations.
In 2024, the donations gathered supported nearly 23,000 underprivileged cancer patients, a figure that continues to increase, along with the total funds allocated, which reached nearly 1.8 million euros, primarily for medication and food.
The Liga Contra o Cancro also offers free consultations at psycho-oncology units manned by experienced clinical psychologists, totaling 20,000 consultations for patients and families in 2024, a 20% increase from 2023.
In addition to supporting patients and families, the LPCC donations are directed towards promoting cancer prevention and screening initiatives and funding scientific research projects.
