The Volunteer Firefighters of Cantanhede rescued a dog on Monday that had wandered into a sewage pipe and became trapped beneath its owner’s home in the village of Cadima.
The fire department reported on social media that the alarm was raised at 7:42 PM after the owner heard the dog, named Chica, barking but couldn’t “identify the exact location of the sound’s origin.”
After pinpointing the barking, the Cantanhede firefighters “began efforts to remove the obstruction via an exit from the sewer.”
This operation was “challenging, as the pipe was blocked by sand and soil, hindering access.”
“After a lengthy and demanding intervention, Chica was finally rescued unhurt and safely returned to her owner,” they announced.
