“We have agreed to revisit the agreements and protocols already signed to be updated in an upcoming mixed commission, which we are planning for next year. We discussed scientific cooperation and the training of personnel,” stated the new Angolan ambassador to Cape Verde, Agostinho Tavares da Silva, in Praia, after meeting with Cape Verde’s Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos.
The diplomat noted that Cape Verde “has extensive experience” in the fields of the sea and fisheries and also expressed the desire to strengthen ties with the Angolan community residing in Cape Verde.
“It will be one of my priorities. To work on bringing the community closer, listening to their needs, and providing the necessary assistance,” he remarked.
Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos, also expressed the desire to revitalize cooperation ties in the maritime sector, starting with fisheries, and to relaunch the industrialization of the sector by promoting investment in both countries.
The official mentioned that Angola currently possesses one of the most sophisticated oceanographic vessels, which could be integrated into scientific cooperation networks.
“We are in the process of acquiring our own vessel. We want to advance research in ocean ecosystem sustainability and relaunch cooperation,” he added.
