“At the inauguration ceremony, the Professional Merit Medal of the First Degree will be awarded to the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina,” announced the government. This recognition is attributed to what is described as his “visionary leadership” and “invaluable contribution to the economic and social development” of the Lusophone country.
According to the administration led by Ulisses Correia e Silva, the support from the African Development Bank has been significant over “a decade of strategic cooperation and transformative investments in crucial sectors such as sustainable energy, transportation, [digital and ocean] economy, agriculture, and good governance,” as stated in the announcement.
The public technology park represents a 50 million euro investment, currently hosting a data center and representations from 23 companies across seven nationalities, involving the daily work of 400 employees, as stated by Carlos Monteiro, chairman of the board of directors of Techpark, in an interview with Lusa.
The Operational Center for the Information Society (Nosi), a public company founded nearly 30 years ago to manage the state’s technological domain, has been a driving force in Cape Verde’s tech sector. Today, it stands as an exporter of digital solutions situated within the park.
Efforts are underway to attract international companies and promote services offered from Cape Verde, which aims to position itself as a “technological hub of reference in the Mid-Atlantic,” encourage innovative new businesses (commonly referred to as “startups”), and draw in digital nomads.
The inauguration of the technology park hub on the island of São Vicente is scheduled for Tuesday.
