The indicator had been declining since the second quarter of 2024 and began to recover in the first three months of this year, though not sufficiently to present a positive year-over-year variation.
In the third quarter, the indicator was set at 15 points, one point less than the same period in 2024.
Responses to the survey by the Cape Verdean National Institute of Statistics showed mixed trends.
“For the families surveyed, over the past 12 months, the economic situation of their household improved positively,” but “the country’s economic situation evolved negatively compared to the same quarter last year,” the report reads.
According to respondents, “in the past 12 months, both prices and unemployment decreased compared to the same period in 2024.”
Regarding the savings capacity, 96.5% of the respondents stated that the current situation does not allow saving, an increase of 4.1 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2024.
For the next 12 months, “prospects are more pessimistic: respondents expect a deterioration in the financial situation of families and the national economy.”
The consumer confidence survey by the INE, which is qualitative in nature, evaluates quarterly the perception of families regarding the economy and their financial situation. It is nationally representative and covers the municipalities of Praia, Santa Catarina de Santiago, São Vicente, and Sal.
