The date is celebrated annually on September 27 since 1980 and is one of the most important milestones in the global tourism sector,” it was stated.
The World Tourism Organization is a specialized agency of the UN and the main international organization in the field of tourism, aimed at promoting and developing it.
“In 2027, Cabo Verde will be the central stage of celebrations promoted by UN Tourism, placing the country at the forefront of international debate and projection on the future of tourism,” the Government explained.
The country was also elected to the World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE), a body established in 2003, responsible for interpreting, applying, and monitoring “the provisions of the UN Tourism Global Code of Ethics.”
“The Ministry of Tourism and Transport considers Cabo Verde’s election as recognition of its commitment to the principles of ethics, sustainability, inclusion, and responsibility in tourism development,” it was stated.
“These two distinctions took place during the 68th Meeting of the African Commission of UN Tourism (CAF), held from June 11 to 13, in Abuja, Nigeria, reinforcing the international projection of the archipelago in the tourism sector and demonstrating the recognition of the progress Cabo Verde has made in promoting resilient, diverse, and sustainable tourism,” concluded the Government’s statement.
