The Festival de Fado will arrive in Cape Verde for the first time in 2025, to be held at the National Auditorium Jorge Barbosa. This marks the inaugural edition of the largest international showcase of this legendary Portuguese musical genre, as stated in a press release from the Portuguese Cultural Center in Praia.
The main highlight will be the young Portuguese fado singer, Teresinha Landeiro, who will present her latest album, ‘Para dançar e para chorar,’ to the Cape Verdean audience during a concert scheduled for September 11.
In addition to the concerts, the program includes cinema, featuring a screening of the documentary ‘Movimentos Perpétuos’ by Edgar Pêra, and a conference led by guitarist Bernardo Couto at the Embassy of Portugal in Cape Verde.
According to the organizers, the three-day festival offers the Cape Verdean audience “a journey through the soul of fado and an opportunity to celebrate the Portuguese language and culture.”
The International Festival of Fado, now in its 15th edition since its inception in Madrid in 2011, and entitled “100 Years Carlos Paredes,” has traveled to 20 cities across 14 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
